Well, I have finally decided to take the leap and open an online store. I've been thinking about it for a while now, and it's time. The kids will be going back to school soon and I'll have plenty of time to get everything organized and cataloged! I am super excited about it :)

Things in the burbs have been crazy as always. My sister gave me an orphaned kitten... We named her Iris and when I got her she was about 3-4 weeks old. She had conjunctivitis in both eyes and was a little mess :( Well after 2 weeks of caring for her and a hefty vet bill, she is all better and ready for a forever home. I took her to my local SPCA today and they will find her a nice home. My cats did not like her and my female cat, Pika hissed and growled and then refused to eat. I had to make this decision even though it broke my heart to do so. I feel bad, but I also feel like I saved her life and she will get the start that she deserves :)

My daughter's pregnancy is going well and my little grandson is still in his mommy's tummy :) She just passed 23 weeks so I am happy for her!

My Father-in-law is doing much better as well. Things are good :)

Everything else going on is the same craziness with all the animals, kids, and being busy.

Anyway, I just wanted to stop by and give an update on things here in the burbs.... still hot humid, and downright yuck as far as the weather goes too. I can't wait for Fall! Hurry up September! lol

Ever have a few days where you just couldn't sleep? Well, that's me right now. I haven't had a good night's sleep in days... too many things running through my mind. I have so much to do. I want to start an online store to try to sell some of my antiques, I need to get my house decluttered, hubby and I are working on a station wagon to get it ready to drive, and the kids are on summer break!

Whew! I'm exhausted just typing about it...lol I really need to get a list going and just do one thing at a time. It seems like as soon as I start a project, someone needs me and it gets put on hold.... I know, I know - that's because I'm a mommy, and I have to do everything :) I just wish I could get some sleep at night so I wouldn't be so darned cranky all day :(

On a lighter note - my daughter is still going strong with her pregnancy. She is 18 weeks today and counting! YAY! I am still praying for that little grandson of mine to hang in there and wait a few more months (try 4), until he shows himself. Also, my youngest 2 children both received Honor Roll for the end of the school year! They make me and hubby proud! My Father-in Law is doing well with his chemo treatments and celebrated another Father's Day :) so all is not lost....

I hope everyone else had a good Father's Day with their hubbies, or dads :) I made a really nice steak dinner for my sweetheart and spent the day doing car repair with him while my mother-in-law had the kids at her house swimming. It was a good day and everyone was happy :)

Well, that's about it for now - I have some crochet projects in the works as well as some sewing to get done... more to add to the long list..lol I hope everyone has a wonderful day and I will be back soon with more stuff going on in the burbs..Haha.

Well, I've been MIA again and I'm so sorry :( Things on the old homestead have been crazy lately.

My father in law was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago, and we have all been helping out with him and my mother in law. Then right after Mother's Day, a fox killed 3 of my hens. I was devastated. I would have bet money that my chicken run was safe.I would have lost :(

My second oldest daughter announced that she was pregnant...again. I have a beautiful 4 year old granddaughter by her and 2 grandsons who are up in heaven. This pregnancy is not going to be easy and since day 1 she has been going thru hell. It's been bed rest for the last 6 weeks and me being Grandmom x10 to my granddaughter. I don't mind at all, but it gets exhausting at times. I also have an 8 y/o and a 10 y/o to take care of. Can you say BUSY??

Hubby and I had to move the chicken coop and the run to the other side of the yard which took over a week - the pool needing cleaning and filling - all done now. There are other issues, but I won't get into those here.

Anyway, I have had time to make an Ipad case for myself (I won one from a local radio station - yay me!) I also have a few sewing projects in the works. My Spring cleaning has even started yet...ughh. I need to start that soon.

School ends here in a few days, so hopefully I can get some things done while the kids are in the pool... maybe I can even get them to help me (yeah right).

I'm trying to be positive about all of the things going on right now. My FIL is getting better with his chemo and meds, The chickens are safe now, and my grandson is still in his Mommy's belly!

I hope to have a much more positive post here soon. In the meantime, keep crafting and keep smiling - that's what I am trying to do! :)

It seems like the whole Urban Homesteadeing revolution the past few days has brought many people together! This is awesome! It feels great to know that there are so many Urban Homesteaders out there blogging away with such an overwhelming passion!

Yep, we are fiesty! we are strong, passionate, intelligent, caring, and dedicated! We will stand firm in what we believe in!

As for today, I am still reading blogs and staying in because we got a nice dose of snow last night. My chickens are huddled under their coop and once in a while will venture into the snow, only to run back under there! lol I love those girls ♥

My children are home from school and they are listening to Queen's "We Will Rock You" ☺
I've heard it 5 times already...geesh, pick another song already! I keep checking outside to see if my new coffee can birdhouse is attracting any takers yet...haha. I don't think so, but it's still early. Hopefully we'll have a new bird family in there soon!

Tomorrow, I think I will go antiquing. Just to look (yeah right). I need a cabinet for my new bathroom downstairs and I'm looking for something to refinish. I can never just go out and buy something that's finished already. It's an addiction of mine - refinishing old things and making them new as well as making new things from old.

Well, I guess it's time for me to jump off of here - I have a craft room calling my name. sadly I need to dejunk it and say goodbye to some things (insert tears here). It will hurt, but I will be stronger for it!! Plus it makes room for new stuff... OOPS, did I type that?? HAHA

Now, I know that there are many of you out there that are asking, "What are you talking about?" Well let me clarify things.....

I live in the suburbs, I have a simple Cape Cod on an acre of land, I have the typical swimming pool, playset, and mini van. I also try to grow my own veggies, successfully raise chickens, have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and plan on getting 2 goats this Spring. I am an Urban Homesteader. My chickens provide me with fresh eggs everyday that my family and I enjoy. Not only that, I love raising them!

My skills are not that of a Farmer, but I enjoy the simple things in life - my family, my animals, the smell of our campfire burning on cool nights, picking a handful of stringbeans with my grandbaby, and watching birds nest in my homemade birdhouses!

Now, my reason for blogging today - and I will quote this from a Facebook group -
The Derveas family has recently trademarked the terms "Urban Homestead" and "Urban Homesteading."

Are they serious? How do you possibly trademark a term that is so diversified? Most of the women I talk to through blogs, Facebook, and Mary Janes Farm are Urban Homesteaders!(no TM here). We are the down to earth, simple life loving, keeping it real women (and men) who have a passion for growing veggies, raising livestock, and getting our hands dirty!!

My friend Tina from GardenGoose.blogspot.com told me about this today and I had to blog! It really struck a nerve in me when I began reading about this company trademarking this term. So, here I am proudly blogging about why I am an Urban Homesteader! I will alway be one because this is who I am! I DO NOT need a trademark. I DO NOT need anyones approval.

My family has been Urban Homesteading for generations. Self sustaining and proud. Raising livestock, growing gardens, making their own clothing, and the list goes on and on. That's something that I am proud of! I can remember my grandmother growing small gardens and sewing her own clothes even when she lived in a townhome in the county. She remained true to who she was and I will continue to do the same. I include my children in my journey with hopes that they will continue on with what I do........

Trademark??? I don't think so.

Happy Anniversary!

Today is my Anniversary. It is 9 years of being happily married to my best friend. We're going out this saturday to Toby's dinner Theater in Baltimore! Charlie made reservations last week for us to see the show Beehive. I can't wait! It'll be so nice to get away for a night. I've been cooped up in the house for what seems like ages. Between the weather, sick children and school being cancelled or off due to holidays, I am behind on my organizing, crafting, and me time!

Now don't get me wrong - I love having my kids around me, but when you have a 9 year old boy and 8 year old girl constantly arguing, it gets a little old. I need to play referee at least every other hour...ugh. It's so much better when they are in school, come home, and have their time occupied...lol I try to do crafts with them, play the wii, and watch movies, but sometimes you need to just throw the towel in and keep them in seperate rooms for a bit..lol

I have started a cute little scarf. I am making it with a filet cross in each section - getting a jump start on Easter, I guess. It's halfway finished, so I'll post a pic when I'm done. I'm thinking of doing a Valentine's one too if I have time with a heart in each section. Hmmmmmm...maybe.

My daughter wants me to get crafting so her and I can get a table this Spring at a Flea Market to sell our stuff. Her fiance is making bird houses, so we'll see. Maybe I can get a few more items made in time. I did make a few coffee can bird houses a week ago. My grandaughter helped me and they are sooooo cute!Let me see if I can get a pic on here soon :)

Well, I guess I should be a good wife and go get my Hubby an Anniversary card...lol

Happy New Year! I hope it's everything you all wish for! I'm not making any extreme resolutions this year, just gonna try to get healthier this year. What about you? Any plans for 2011? Maybe a new diet, or trying to stick to that budget?

Anyway, I haven't been on for a long time so I thought I'd catch up with what's been going on in the burbs....

The past few holidays have been good. It's great to be with family and friends (but also great when they all go home..lol) Lots of good food, fun, and being sooo tired. I am ready to start the new year with a better ooutlook. Needless to say, 2010 was not a banner year....

To start off last year I lost my cat, Salem, to bone marrow cancer. Today is the one year anniversary of his death, so I thinking of him alot. I miss him dearly. Then in February, I lost my favorite hen, Annie right after our second blizzard. See? Told you 2010 was not a good year.

Then my hubby struggled to find a job while I busted my butt for chump change. I did quit the job and hubby found an awesome company to work for in November! The holidays were crazy with shopping, waiting for items in the mail and the rudeness of many Christmas shoppers. I vow to start in September this year!!!

So, here's to a terrific 2011! Keeping my fingers crossed that it is better than 2010.

Oh - one more thing... I resolve to do more crafting this year now that I am home and to update my blog at least once a week!

I am really over this whole Summer thing. It's been way too hot here in MD and the humidity is making it worse. Not a whole lot getting done around here as far as the yard since it's so blistering hot. I did, however, get 4 more chicks and right now they are in their brooder growing like weeds!Not sure how my bigger hens will respond to them when they go outside soon - so I'm crossing my fingers that all will be well.
I haven't even had much time for crafting either. I've been working crazy hours and start working full time in a few weeks. Hubby is unemployed right now so I need to get out there and make that money!

Summer in the burbs

Wow - it's been one crazy summer here. Between work, family, and the animals..I've been busy. It's been way too hot for Maryland this year and I'm seriously considering moving to a higher elevation in the mountains...lol
I've missed being on here posting and I need to get back in the swing of things. The kids have one month of summer vacation left and the heat is making it hard to enjoy. I can not wait until Fall.
I did go out and get 4 more chickens and they are soooo cute. I got 2 Welsummers, a Buff Orpington, and a Cute little Silkie! They are in my room in their brooder now, peeping and playing. I just love baby chicks :)
This summer my hubby and I decided it was time to expand our backyard, so it's been a slow, hot process. We're making headway though and by the Spring of next year - we should have a HUGE yard for the kids and animals! I am definitely getting a hammock to relax in. That will be my gift to myself for all the hard work :)
Anyway, I'm off to make dinner, but I'll try to keep up with my blog. No promises since summer is always hectic for me, but I'll do my best!

Back again......

I was sitting here thinking about my blog today and what to say. It's been months since I've been on here and I feel everyone deserves to know why.
In late September, my cat Salem became very ill. For over 3 months, my husband and I took care of him, gave him meds, ran to the vet numerous times, and cried a lot. Salem finally left us on January 3rd 2010. He had bone marrow cancer and we just could not let him suffer anymore. He was the best cat I ever had and he will be missed terribly.
I have also been working day and night shifts at my catering job. The holidays took up alot of my time too. My van has been giving me a fit lately and as of today, it is getting repaired again :(
So, I've had my share of heartache and frustration these past 3 or 4 months. I apologize for not being on here.
Now, some good news. I adopted another kitty at the local shelter and she is so beautiful. She could never replace Salem, but Pika is a joy to be with and so lovable.
I have also been getting back to my crocheting and tote bag making. It keeps my mind off of things and relaxes me :)

So, I am going to post a few pics here and I hope to be back on here soon to give you more amazing thoughts from your suburban farmgirl...lol

This past week has been a relief from all the hot weather here in MD. I am so ready to welcome Fall. The pumpkin farm, the changing of the leaves on the trees, the smell of pumpkin and pecan pies in the over. I can't wait to start decorating for Halloween and Thanksgiving here at home. My chidren can actually go out and jump in the leaves soon while I enjoy my coffee on the porch. I love Fall and the crisp nights and breezy days :) Geez, I sound like a corny old magazine, don't I? lol

I am so tired of the mosuitoes and flies, cleaning the pool, and sweating! I want to put on a jacket and take a walk or just be lazy on the back deck. I also can't wait to start crocheting again. I've been so busy with birthdays and work that I haven't gotten anything done! That will be changing soon, believe me. I have some ideas for my crochet stash that I want to get started on soon.

I also want to get baking again. I know alot of my MJF friends are great bakers and crafters. So, if you have any great pie recipes of patterns that you want to share - please let me know!

I am going to be sorting through my stash soon so I'm hoping to have a giveaway or some things to barter. I'll keep everyone posted.

Birthday, birthdays, and more birthdays....

This past month and next week are filled with so many birthdays around here! We had a party for my grand daughter last weekend, next weekend will be a party for my oldest sone (he'll be 18) and my oldest daughter (she'll be 25). Not to mention my dad's birthday last month, my neice, and my boss. Whew! That's alot of birthday cards...lol

I have been so busy with work that I barely have time to get on here. I wanted to stop in and let everyone know that I am still around :) My hubby got laid off a few months ago and I had to take on more hours at work. He's back to work now, but I'm still working evenings and a few hours during the day.

The last two days here have been beautiful! The weather has been perfect and Fall is in the air!! I can't wait to see the leaves change and put out my Fall decorations. Halloween is right aroound the corner!

So, if I seem MIA for a while in between posts, I'm just busy. I'll try to get on here and post a few words as often as I can.

Oh, by the way...check out the cake that I made for my grand daughter's 3rd birthday!! Maybe I should have my own Food Network show?? No, I'm just kidding...lol

Been so busy....

Sorry I haven't been on here in a while. I have been so busy with everything! I've been working, gadening, taking care of my chicken(which by the way are growing so fast!), dealing with a killer toothache, having the tooth pulled - OUCH!, and went to my daughter's first show with her new band last night. Whew! Told ya I've been busy :)

I've really missed blogging on here. It seems like time has gotten away from me. I did manage to crochet a shawl for my youngest daughter. It is so cute and totally pink..lol She loves it!

So that is where I am right now. Oh, I've also been redoing the front bedroom of my house to turn it into a nice little "romantic" bedroom for me and the hubby. We definitely need more us time and our new bedroom will be so comfy and cozy when we are done. I can't wait to move in and relax! We're upstairs next door to the kids now, so no privacy at all :( This will be a big change for us.

So, with all that said. I will try to get back on here as soon as I can to keep you all updated on happenings here in the burbs. Now, it's off to bed because I have to work in - well - 8 hours!

Well, the rain doesn't seem to want to stop this month...Ughhh. Everyday it rains and that is definitely not normal for Maryland. I'm tired of driving in it,waking up to it, and seeing it fall altogether. I know, it could be worse, but here in MD - we're not used to it..lol

On a lighter note, I got the chickens outside. They are 8 weeks old today and with the exception of one of the hens trying to peck the others (I'm winning the battle on this!)everything else is good. They love their new home and my home is chicken free! I'll post some pics later of them - they are too cute!

The kids are out of school and it's gonna be a long summer. They get bored, cranky, and the rain doesn't help. Oh well, time to get creative.

I still haven't crafted anything in quite a while. I'm gonna get back to it soon, now that the chicks are in their new home. I found some cool crochet projects to tackle :)

Anyway, Ijust wanted to stop in and let everyone know that I am still around. Have a great week and stay dry!!

Between my kids, cats, the dog, and my chickens - I've been really busy! I've also taken up some gardening and so far, it's going good. I can't wait to get the first fruits and veggies off of their vines!
Hopefully everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day and weekend. Mine was good. Had the family over for some good food and a few laughs! I've missed blogging lately. I haven't even started any craft projects yet. My hands are itching for the crochet hook, but I've just got so much going on. I have been looking for some new patterns and thinking about using up my "plarn" stash to make a cool tote bag for the grocery store or maybe a rug. Who nows? I always change things up at the last minute! lol
Well, I'm off to look at a few friends' blogs, so here are some new updated pics of my chicky babies for you to enjoy. They are getting sooo big!

Been sooo busy!

Well, I have to say that this may well be the busiest Spring ever for me! I'm not complaining - I am happy about it actually. I have two 4x4 square foot garden beds that are doing pretty well. I'm so excited about that! I have 4 baby chicks that are feathering and growing like weeds. They'll be out in their coop in a few weeks and I can't wait to watch them enjoy the outdoors. Gunner (my new dog) is doing well. We are still working on his discipline and training, but he's a lovable dog so I guess we'll keep him ;)
My cats are still a little anxious around the dog, but haven't cared about the chicks at all! That's a good thing. I hope it stays that way when they go outside soon. The little ones helped me plant some parsley and flowers over the weekend in some terra cotta pots that they decorated. They are such the artists! lol
Mother's day was good. I got to sleep in a little, hubby cooked dinner, and my children were here too! All in all a good day :) I hope all the moms out there had a good Mother's Day too!
I've been working on dejunking my house, so crafting anything has been put on the back burner. I need to make something though - I feel like I'm going nuts without a crochet hook in my hand or the sewing machine on! I'd settle for a box to decoupage right now. But with everything else and my part time job, it'll have to wait. Once I get the chicks outside and the bedrooms re-arranged, I'll be in good shape! Then I'll start my crafting again!

My own little "Farm"

Well, I did it! I bought 4 baby chicks Saturday and it's been a blast so far! I have 2 Golden Comets (Shelly and Goldie - my friends Carol's chick) and 2 Ameracaunas (Daisy and Annie). They are so cute and feisty! They are a week old today and getting bigger everytime Ilook at them. Hubby and I are going to fix up the coop and run for them very soon and hopefully before Fall I will have some fresh eggs from my girls :)

I've also put in my square foot garden :) Since my camera wants to act up, I can't take pics of it right now, but hopefully by the end of the week I'll have some to show you all. My squash, lettuce, cukes, marigolds, spinach, and broccolli are sprouting up and I'm so excited! Last time I attempted to grow anything in my yard, I was so upset and gave up. This time there is hope! YAY.

I love the square foot gardening method because it was so simple and I didn't have to dig up my yard (no tilling, yay!). I just mixed the soils that I purchased from the co -op and put them in my raised beds, planted the seeds, gave them a drink, and that's it!! Love it and so easy.

I haven't crocheted or made anything in about a month either! I have been so busy working at my job , working in the yard, or doing housework. By the time I relax - all I want to do is go to bed. I do have a few ideas in my head, so we'll see. Maybe I'll use up some fabric and do some pillows for my bedroom.

Anywho - I'm gonna post a pic or two of my girls and show you all how cute they are..lol

Spring cleaning ......

Well, it's that time of year again when I get that "I gotta clean the yard" bug. I've made 2 4'x4' square boxes and I am going to attempt (the main word here is attempt) to square foot garden. I'm siked, I'm ready, and I am going to give it my best shot! Hopefully I can get something to grow and that it will save me some money on that grocery store produce! The little ones are going to help me , so , if I only get a few veggies this year, it's ok. We'll have fun gardening anyway!

My dog, is well, goofy. He is showing signs of seperation anxiety and he's driving me nuts. I have to crate him when I go to work, because he gets destructive when I leave. Ughh. I've been trying to be patient with him, so I hope that he will snap out of it soon. I don't know his history since we adopted him from an animal shelter, so we just have to keep showing him love and hope that he will calm down.

This year I'm not looking forward to Easter. I'm just not ready! Finances are so tight right now and it seems that there is no light at the end of the tunnel. My van needs brakes, there are Easter baskets to make, and all that money to spend. I know that I am not the only one and I am thankful for what I have. Sometimes it does get overwhelming and I just need to get it out. There, done. lol

New addition to the family!

Hi all! We have a new addition to our family! NO, it's not a baby....lol, it's our new pup, Gunner. We adopted him from a local shelter and welcomed him home last Thursday. He's a 2 year old German Shorthaired Pointer. He's wonderful with the kids and just a big baby :) He needs a little training, but I think he'll be just fine. The cats don't like him too much, but they're coming around little by little.

We spent the weekend raising our backyard fence up 2 feet so Gunner wouldn't attempt an escape. I don't think he ever would, but ya never know.

I haven't been crafting much in the last week and I miss my "me" time. Between work , family, and the new pup, life has been hectic. I hope I can get back on track with my craft projects soon :)

Well, here are some of the pics from Valentine's Day and a few other pics I threw in for good measure.
The beautiful flowers, card, and balloons are from my sweet hubby and children.Ally made me the family a special Valentine's card too. I love handmade gifts and cards. I save them all - I'm such a pack rat. The cute little heart bag with some great smelling bath soak is from Smoothiejuice on the MJF site and the adorable jewelry pouch is from Beverley from the MJF site. we had a hand crafted Valentine swap going and these were my swap gifts! I love them both. They are so great!
The doll is from Carol (my best bud) who is also a MJ Farmgirl and a member of my CraftyBay Farmgirls! Isn't she adorable??
The new pics are of my beautiful grand daughter. She's 2 now and cute as a button. She knows it too. lol
Last is my 40 year old balloon that for some reason is still holding air like it's new. Hmmmm - maybe to constantly remind me that I am getting old...lol Just kidding. I'm not old - I'm just getting started!

Well, I finally made it to my 100th post! I've been sick with bronchitis for a month now, but I'm feeling a little better and wanted to have a giveaway for all my blogging friends.

Ok, so now on to the other stuff. I have bee making a few things since I've been sick. Passes the time and keeps me busy (when the kids aren't..lol). I've also celebrated my 40th birthday last Friday. Hubby threw me a surprise party and my friends and family were here. It was nice, but I was exhausted at the end of the night. Whew! Turning 40 is hard work :)

My daughter Samantha also celebrated her 21st birthday on the 25th and my youngest son Noah turned 8 on the 31st. My 7 year anniversary was on January 19th, so you can see that I've been busy this month, not to mention broke.....

Today, it's snowing and I have to get ready to go to work. I deliver food for a friend of mine when the school has no substitute work for me. It helps me make some extra money and keeps me busy. So I will post some pics of my recent creations and post a pic of what the giveaway tote bag will look like.

I just wanted to stop in and wish every the Happiest New Year ever! I hope yours is filled with love, joy, and peace. Please take time to tell those closest to you that you love them and show them every once in a while too ;)

I hope everyone had a safe, enjoyable New Years Eve too. Mine was spent at home with the family. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else! I've been ill the last few days, but at least I got to spend some time with the kids and the hubby (even though I was sneezing and coughing ALOT).

While I was at it, I thought I would share my decoration on the onside of my house. Yes, we are BIG Christmas Fans and I love all of my decorations. Some are store bought, and some are made by me and my children. Most of my Christmas Tree is decorated with handmade ornaments. Some are over 20 years old! I have a snowflake them for my dining room and people seem to enjoy the thought of having some snow hanging above their heads while visting and enjoying good food and good company!

Why is it that when you are waiting for something, time seems to crawl - BUT if you don't want a certain time to get here it slams right into ya and is here before ya know it???

I watched my son erase our little "Christmas is _ days away board" andhe put an 8 on there this morning! Eight days!! I am not done shopping, crafting, and I still need to bake! Holy Moley - this year has flew by and right now I am feeling the dreaded Christmas stress. Yep, you all know - the "did I buy enough gifts", or "what if someone unexpected stops by?", or " Did I miss anyone when sending out the Christmas cards", and lastly "Where did all my money go??". Ughhh

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Christmas! I don't like that it's become so commercial, but we all fall victim to it each year. It's in our nature to want to give and sometimes we go broke doing it! I'm guilty of it, but I have slimmed the gifts down this year. So - good for me!

I did manage to get some pics of my decorated house and I will post them for everyone to see in a day or two. My hubby loves to decorate the Candy Cane Lane because of our house! That, to me, is why we do this! If it makes people happy and in the spirit of the season, then we are very happy!

I've been crafting my little heart out too. I really can't show you what I'm making right now, but I'll post pics after Christmas. "Spying eyes" may be checking out my blog and see the pics...lol

Anywho, enjoy the holidays and hopefully I will have enough time to post again soon!

Some new pics and thoughts

Stopping in to say hello again :) I've been busy working, being mom and wife, and camping :), so I needed to get back on here to post some pics and some thoughts.

My first thought is that I have been seeing so many people putting Christmas decorations up already!!!! What happened to the Thanksgiving Holiday?? No turkey cut outs on the doors or fall wreaths, no Happy Thanksgiving signs hung on the doors either? In my opinion, I think it's bad enough that retailers push Christmas on us in Oct. , now this!
Don't get me wrong - I absolutely LOVE Christmas! I love the sights, smells, and the feelings of Christmastime. I don't like that people rush things. I want Christmas to come along in a "normal" way - after Thanksgiving. Just my opinion.

My next thought is that it is snowing here already! Are we in for a very cold winter? Maybe. Hubby says no, but I beg to differ. It wouldn't bother me if it was. I love the Fall and Winter. I bake, craft, and hang out with the family more. I love to smell everyone's fireplaces burning and there are no more darn mosquitoes!lol

Finally, I've been thinking about the New Year. I really hope it's better than this past year. Financially, it's been terrible. I wished I could have done more with the children, paid all of my bills on time, and been able to afford a few things that we desperately need. But, I'm optimistic that next year will bring better things for us and I hope it brings better things for everyone else as well.

On a lighter note - I am posting some pics of the children in their Halloween best, my grand daughter, and my newest creations for Gods tiny angels. I send my crocheted hats off to Heartfelt Angels and I am going to donate a few afghans to my local hospital this year.

I can't beileve it's been almost a month since I blogged last!! I have been super busy with 2 part time jobs, kids, keeping house, and Halloween just days away!

But, I am still kicking and looking forward to the 31st. I love taking the kids out trick or treating. They have so much fun. My hubby and I are also hosting a costume party on Nov. 1st. Should be a blast!!

I really haven't had much time to craft anything in a few weeks, so I'll have to get back with everyone on that subject.

This past weekend hubby and I took the little ones to the pumpkin farm. They had a good time and so did we. The hayride was really fun and we pick ouor own pumpkins straight from the patch! I have some pics that I'll pst below.

Could someone tell me why older "grown" children are more hard to deal with then the little ones? I'm talking kids that are grown and out on their own. Sometimes I just want to pull my hair out and go screaming down the street! If it's not one thing, it's another - i.e: jealousy, holding grudges, doing things that they know is just stupid, and the list goes on and on. Do they ever stop to think about the stress they cause their parents? Probably not or they do and don't care. I 'm at the point in my life where I feel like I need to ask my kids if it's ok for me to do anything! Isn't that awful?? Well, I have news for them - it stops here and now. They can hold grudges, be angry, and stomp their "adult" sized feet, and whatever else they need to do. I have a job now, and my life doesn't end because I have kids!! I need to do things that I enjoy and have friends of my own, and just live my life! I wonder how they'll swallow that pill?? Might be a little hard, but they'll get it down ;)

On a lighter note - I have 2 more finished creations and my crazy cat that I want to show off..lol

The first one is Ally's new hat. She likes it and she wants to wear it to school as soon as it gets a little cooler out. Took me a few hours to make with some leftover yarn. Turned out cool!

Number 2 is my Breast Cancer Awareness Scarf I love this and I may make some to sell.

I need everyone's opinion on it though - I don't want to waste my time making more if you all don't think that they would sell. So, please leave me a comment telling me what you think - should I make more or no? I appreciate any and all input!!

Finally - I had to post pics of my crazy cat Tyson. It must have been weird cat day at my house a few days back. Every time I turned around I caught him being weird! Anywho - enjoy the crazy cat pics..lol

I received my American Farmland bumper stickers today and I am definitely putting one on my van and handing some out to the CraftyBay Farmgirls! Next week, when hubby gets his vacation pay, I'll make a donation to them. They have a cool website with tons of info on buying local and using local resources. There's some recipes too and I think that's cool!

Dinner and a Show!!

Wow, what a weekend! I had so much fun that I need a few days to recouperate! lol

My oldest daughter, Cindy turned 24 a few days ago and we went out Friday night to PF Changs. It was fun. I made her a special cake for thebig occasion. There were 16 of us and the waiters were busy! It was a great night and I was beat when I got home! :)

Saturday was Cindy's first "gig" at The Red House Tavern in Canton, MD. It's a small place with a small stage, but ya gotta start somewhere right? We packed the place and she sang her heart out!! Andy, the guitar player was awesome too!

Needless to say, I cried alittle. I am so proud of her. She dedicated a song to my hubby and told everyone how much she loved him and he cried. It was a wonderful, unforgettable night! As soon as Andy puts the video on disc (I had to use an older camcorder), I'll post a song on here for everyone.

Yesterday was busy too. The family was over for dinner and Charlie cooked ribs and chicken on the grill. I made Kale and Patsa Salad. yummmmmm

Anyway, I hope everyone else had a wonderful weekend. I did get a little crochet time in and I'm almost finished another project.

Crocheted pillow and thoughts of the day.....

Well, I got bored the other day and decided that my youngest daughter needed a pillow...lol So, I picked up my hook and started making granny squares. I ended up with a pretty cool pillow and best of all Ally loves it! So all in all it was a good crochet day!! I put a few pics at the bottom of the post (of course!)

Friday is my daughter Cindy's (the rockstar...ha!) belated birthday/ first gig dinner at PF Changs. I'm venturing in to Baltimore City to check it out and have dinner with my family and some of Cindy's friends (17 of us total!!!) It'll be fun. I just went and had my hair cut for the occassion. GO ME!! I treated myself to a new shirt for the job interview I have tomorrow- or processing like they call it (makes it sound like they're gonna make cheese or something, doesn't it??). I also went to the craft store and bought myself some tea light candles and wax melts in fall scents. Mmmmm, love that pumpkin spice scent!

Saturday is the big gig. I am still in the process making a special shirt to wear on Cindy's big day. I'll post pics of that when I'm finished it. So far, it rocks! I am very proud of it.

You know, I really hate shopping, but today was a good day. My head feels 10 lbs. lighter because I had ALOT of hair. I still do, but it's layered and feels so much better. I found a cute shirt, went to my favorite place (the craft store) and everything went well.

So, I am gonna leave my blog for y'all to read and I hope everyone has a great day today.

Well, my grand baby finally turned 2 on Sunday! We had a BIG party at my house for her and of course, she received a ton of presents. It was really fun, with family, friends, and alot of kids there. The food was sooo good (my hubby is a grill master..lol), and there were pasta salads, cake, brownies, deviled eggs, my famous potato salad and my even more famous meatballs! lol

I baked my grand baby an AWESOME cupcake cake. It turned out so cute, that I had to take pics of it and post them here (along with some from her Disney Princess Party).

This week I started an Etsy shop and so far I have sold 2 things! YAY! While I don't ever expect to make a fortune off of this, it is exciting when you sell something! I mostly have vintage and not so vintage sewing patterns on right now. I'm trying to unclutter my collection. I also have a couple of handmade purses too. Just look up bigdogmom130's etsy shop and that's me!

I made another "nightie" for my hubby ;), and took some pics of the little one's first day of school. Noah started school first and then Ally started a few days later. Poor Noah went back to school with a bad case of poison ivy on his face! I felt so bad for him and he had trouble sleeping at night. He's much better today, though. He's back to his handsome little self!

Hopefully I can get another project started on my crochet hook. I pulled out all of my old issues of the "Workbasket" magazines and seperated them. Most will go on my Etsy shop, but a handful I'm going to keep. I'm also posting a ton of vintage and retro patterns on there too. It takes forever to get everything on there! Finally, I have some handmade purses that I'm gonna put on my Etsy shop!

Maybe I'll make a few buck with the Etsy shop. I hope so.

Back to school and other thought.....

Well, it's finally here! The first day of school. For awhile there I didn't know if I was gonna make it to this day..lol My little ones were starting to drive me bonkers with the "I'm bored", and "There's nothing to do" routines. Ughh. So it was up at 7 am and off to the bus stop this morning - for one child at least.

The school around here do a thing called staggered entrance for the pre-k and kindergarten classes. My youngest, Ally goes for one day this week - Thursday, and then she doesn't go back until day after Labor Day. Now, the schools here have been doing this for a few years now, and I understand why - I think. I do, however, think it's somewhat of a hassle for some parents who work. Just my opinion. But, on a lighter note - I know that they will both be learning full time starting next week.

I put in an application early on in the summer to be a substitute teacher for the school my children attend. I finally got an e-mail Friday saying that I was accepted. YAY!! Now I have to be fingerprinted and attend a "processing orientation" in a few weeks and then I am going back to work!! I am nervous and excited about it. I'll miss being home, but I need to work and bring in some extra money into our home.

On a crafty note - I have completed my latest "nightie" and I will post pics on the next go round. It turned out very cute and hubby loved it! ;p

I'm sitting her think about all the things in my house that I love and could never part with. Besides my family, of course, I have ALOT of things that are near and dear to my heart. Could I have actually grown this attched to material things?? I guess I have and I'm sure I'm not the only person who has a house full of treasures that they couldn't do with out.

I've even questioned myself about these things - If I hit the lottery, would I leave this stuff behind? Who gets all of my treasures when I'm no longer a part of this world? Would my family even want to keep any of my things or would they get thrown out or sold? Would my hubby keep my things aroound even if he met someone else if the unthinkable happened? I know these questions may sound strange to some, but I think some of my blogging friends understand what I'm saying, don't you?

I think I could honestly say that I could do without this house in the burbs. I'd much rather be in the country anyhow, but part with my treasures? No way! I have a very strong conection to my things, and most have tons of memories attached. Hubby would have to deal with my old things if we ever struck it rich..lol

I also think that one never really understands just how much they have until they think about what they couldn't part with. I am truly blessed to have acquired so many things that are dear to me. I'm lucky to be able to enjoy them everyday. I think my treasures speak to others about who I am too. Hmmm...does that make me a crazy, picture loving, yarn collecting, crochet crazy, antique collecting, crafty type of girl?? You bet it does! Proud to be one too!

I'm just so excited! My daughter, Cindy, just got her first gig! Her and her band partner, Andy are going to be playing at the Red House Tavern in Canton, MD on Spet.13th. I can't wait to go see her play live! She's so excited about it and I'm very proud of her for following her dreams!

Other than that exciting news, things here in the burbs have been normal (nornal for me anyway..lol) It's been hot here in MD and humid. Yuck. The kids have been in the pool everyday and Ally has met a new friend here in the neighborhood. This is the first time since I've been living here that she has had a little girl to play with!

Well, I'm going to go and take some pics of my newest creations. I'll post again later and put my pics up.

I just scored BIG today! I am a freecycle nut and today it really paid off! This is my *new* 1958 Singer 403A Slant-O-Matic sewing machine! Isn't she beautiful?? I got the machine, table, and 2 drawers FULL of sewing supplies! I even got the original Singer sewing machine parts that came with it and the owners manual! I couldn't believe it when the woman who was giving it away told me that the drawers were full! She wasn't kidding! So now, this makes 5 machines for me - 3 Singers, 1 White, and 1 Brother. I'm running out of room here! lol

I am soooo excited with this machine. Leave me a comment and tell me what you think.

Did I mention it was FREE!!!!!! WooHoo!

Drum roll please.........

After weeks of crocheting, I've FINALLY finished the afghan for my oldest daughter, Cindy. Now I'm working on a pillow to match and willpst that pic when it's done :)

I'm still a little off of my game because of my back, but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. Hopefully everyday will find me better than the day before - *crossing fingers*.

I hope everyone had a terrific 4th of July and that it was fun and safe! We've been doing alot of swimming in the pool with the kids and the grandbaby!

Anywho, I'm off to work on the pillow for Cindy. I'm trying to get it done so I can start on my next project - TBA. ;p

Summer in the Burbs among other things...

Well, it's been summer for a few days now and honestly, I hate it. Now don't get me wrong, I likke the longer days and the sound of my kids in the pool, but the heat and humidity here in MD is terrible!! Makes it hard to feel like leaving the house unless you're jumping in the swimming pool.

I know everyone knows from a previous post why I haven't been blogging as much as I want to. Well, I am still having back issues, but not as much as before. I've been doing my streyching and it helps for awhile. I'll live though.....It'll be ok.

The camping trip a few weekends ago was FUN! The kids had a blast and we met some new friends while we were in PA. The members of the MAC (Mid Atlantic Campers) website as well as some members of PopupPortal.com were there. We had a wonderful potluck dinner and just hung out with each other. The kids went to the beach at the state park that we camped in and all was well! I forgot my camera ...I know, DUH, but I'll try to get one of the other campers to send me some pics to post on here asap.

So, here in the burbs we have been getting some really strange weather. Thunder and lightning storms have been the norm at night here. I did get some cool pics of the rainbow from the other day though!

Today is CraftyBay Farmgirl meeting day. Even though only 3 of the 7 members are showing up, we three will have fun. I think it's time to make a few changes too. More on that later.

Well, I'm gonna post some pics of what's been going on around here in the burbs. Oh, I almost forgot - I am working on a BIG crocheted afghan for my oldest daughter right now. I will definitely take pics of it soon and post on here. Hopefully I will be on here more since I do have more things that I would love to share with you all.

I've been away for a few days and I have missed writing on here. There have been reasons for this though.

I am still trying to get over the tragedy that occured a few weeks ago in my life - MJF ladies know what it was. Now I am trying to fight the pain in my back that is trying to take over my life. I have been told that I have Piriformis Syndrom and that I also have the early signs of Degenerative Disc Disease. Ughhh. Double whammy!

I hate taking pills, but this time I took mine on time everyday. It hurts to sit for long periods of time. I have to do stretching exercises to untighten the muscle around the base of my spine.

So, that is why I have been away from my blog for a few days.

On a lighter note - I am going to PA to go camping this weekend, bad back and all. I am not going to let this get the best of me! I am a fighter!!

We (hubby and I) are taking the kids to their first state park camping experience! This should be an adventure! I'll post pics when I return.

I also got the swimming pool clean and took my first swim of the season today! It was great. Just me, Noah, All, my daughter Sam, and my grand daughter! The pool was full! It was fun, though.

Well, I'm off to bed. I will write more when I have time.

Just stopping in to post a great big "HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND" to all my blogging (and not blogging) friends! Also to all my farmgirl friends at MJF!!!

This weekend will be busy for me, so I doubt that I will be posting. Tomorrow is get the pool ready to open day, and Sunday is the memorial service for my grandson :( Don't worry, I will be ok. I have the support of all my family and my farmgirl friends. Couldn't ask for anything more :)

I hope everyone has a beautiful, sunny weekend. Go out and spend some quality time with your family and friends. Hug your kids and your spouse too. Don't ever forget to tell the ones you love that you do love them. You never know what tomorrow brings......

Bartering...hmmmmm

I was just reading a post on MJF about someone who got had on the bartering thing. That hits close to home with me.

Now, don't get me wrong - I love a good barter and it is fun, but there are those times when I get had by the person that I barter with. It's happened 2 or 3 times so far and it's frustrating!! Grrrr.

Listen - If you want to barter, then make sure you can hold up to your end of the deal. Now I'm not going to mention any names since you already know who you are, but I'm still waiting on a barter from last October!! I guess I can kiss that goodbye. This person is still bartering with others and so are the ones that still owe me from 3 months ago! Ughhhh. :(

I do, however, have a few ladies that I barter with who are golden. Tribalcime (Lisa) is one of them. She is the sweetest person and makes sure that she sends her stuff out asap and everything she barters is awesome!

Now, I know that postage is high and so is the price of gas. PLEASE THINK ABOUT THAT BEFORE YOU AGREE TO A BARTER!!!!!

I don't think that I will be bartering for awhile except with the few that I trust. It's sad that in a day where we all need each other and where a helping hand is always welcome, that there are still people out there who want to make it difficult.

Lisa, Denise, Deb, Linda, and others, you are terrific!!! All the rest who fall short, well all I can say is please stop bartering and because it makes the other person sad :(

Anywho, vent is over now. Just had to get that off of my chest!

Hopefully the next post will be more pleasant!! HA!

Back in the Burbs...

Well, I'm back from my campin' trip and it wasn't long enough for me. I had fun and so did the hubby and kids. It did give me some time to clear my head and I definitely needed that! I did manage to crochet a few washcloths on the way to the campground (hubby laughs at me, but I get bored in the passenger seat!)

We traveled down to Ocean City and rode along Ocean Gateway and took in all the classic cars that were down there for cruisin' weekend Saturday night. Charlie is a big gearhead so he was in heaven! Sunday, we drove to Assateague Island and let the kids see the wild horses as well as had lunch and tried our hand at fishing in the campground pond. It rained Sunday afternoon so fishing was cut short and we all went back to the camper to stay dry. Charlie bought Noah and Ally new bikes the day before our trip so they were really surprised Saturday morning when Dad opened the garage and two brand new bikes were in there!

Monday, we took the kids to the Salisbury Zoo. I think I had more fun than the kids! lol Admission there is free and you can donate a few dollars at the gate to help feed the animals. It was a beautiful day for a Zoo trip and of course the littleo nes hit us up for something at the gift shop!

Been Gone Awhile

Sorry I haven't put any new posts on for awhile. Things have been really hectic here in the burbs. I'll spare everyone the whole story, but lets just say that it's been one thing after another. I haven't had much time for crafting either. Hubby and I even canceled a camping trip for Mother's Day weekend because of everything going on. If you check out MaryJane's Farm on occasion, you will get a feel for what's up in my world right now.

On a lighter note, we are going camping this weekend, so maybe I can relax for a few days. Believe me, I NEED IT!!!!!! I'll take some pics and post on here when I get back. We're going to Fort Whaley down near Ocean City, MD on Saturday, Sunday and coming home on Monday. I wish it could be for a week because I could use all that time to clear my head and get away from it all.

Anywho, I'm going to go and start my camping list. I hope everyone has a wonderful, sunny weekend and I'll post again when I return.......

Ok, so what have I made lately? Hmmm - I did crochet and bead a dragonfly (pics will follow) and I finished my Farmgirl Sisterhood badge!

I have also crocheted some washcloths for my mom as well as a little change purse (no pics :( )

Now I am working on a pair of sparkly white crocheted socks for my granddaughter's baptism. They are turning out nice and I will have a pic of them when their done!

Ok, so now I am hooked.... I have found another sewing machine that I had to have! My hubby is just shaking his head at me, but ya gotta love him - he just goes with the flow :)

I won this machine on e-bay. Here's the best part, though - She only cost 0.01!

Yup 1 penny!!!

How cool is that? I watched this machine on there for a week and e-mailed the man who was selling it. I even picked it up instead of having it shipped - saved 140.00!

Anyway - she is a White Rotary Machine - from the serial number, she is from 1936. She works too! All I need is a bulb for the light and the metal bobbin cover plate. She came in her own cabinet with a stool that even has storage in it! I'm gonna refinish the stool and cabinet this spring.

Well, here she is in all her glory!

FARM GIRL BLOG -A-THON WEEK 3 "Domestic Bliss/In the Kitchen"

Well, it's week 3 and the blog-a-thon seems to be going strong!

Tina - http://gardengoose.blogspot.com/ has given us a new theme this week. So, I am going to try to put up a few pics of my kitchen, along with a recipe for some really great meatballs! I don't have a pic of my meatballs, but I promise that they look and taste great!

My kitchen theme is birhouses. I love them! I also love to watch the birds eat the suet cakes I hang for them in the backyard. This past week we have aquired some new friends - Downy Woodpeckers! They are so beautiful! They let you get very close to them and watch them eat so the kids love that. We also have the usual Oriole (our state bird), and bluejays, cardinals, nuthatches, wrens, and blackbirds. The Woodpeckers are so sweet, though. I'm trying to get a good pic of them and will post one as soon as I do.

Anyway, back to my kitchen. It's always busy in there and something is always cooking! I guess my country kitchen also qualifies me as a farmgirl..lol I admit, my kitchen is a bit full of all of my stuff, but I like it!

My recipe for meatballs is one that I made myself. My secret to the sweetness is grape jelly. Once I started using it, everyone was coming out with recipes using jelly! Go figure, huh?

Here is my meatball recipe and pics to follow:

"Tammy's sweet and sour meatballs":

1 large bag of frozen italian style meatballs

2 tbs. grape jelly

2 regular size cans of Manwich or 1 large can

1/4 c. worchestshire sauce

1 tsp. Franks hot sauce

pinch of salt

1 tsp. pepper

Put all ingredients in a crock pot set on medium heat and mix well. Stir occassionally so meatballs and sauce won't burn. Serve on sub rolls with parmesan cheese sprinkled on them or by themselves with a side dish. Enjoy!

These are always a hit at parties and I'm always asked to bring them. They never last long! lol

Farmgirl Blog -A- Thon ( Farmgirl Heart)

I'm jumping on the bandwagon forthe Blog-A-Thon this week! Our them is: WHAT BEING A FARM GIRL MEANS TO YOU.

So, here is my answer and a pic or two:

To me, being a farm girl isn't about just owning a farm (because I don't). It means sharing, helping others, being self sufficient, doing what is right, and keeping things real. It also means knowing how to respect and treat others and helping others in a time of need.

I don't own any farm animals (I'd love to have some chickens and a goat), but that doesn't mean that I don't have a farm girl heart. I love my crafts and I love giving others my creations. I also love being outside and camping with my family. The smell and sight of a campfire is so calming to me. I could sit by one for hours. I love getting my hands dirty and cleaning up my yard, stacking firewood, and coming up with ways to improve my acre of land.

Maybe one day I will own a farm, but until then I am satified that I have what I have - my family, my friends, a place to lay my head, good food in my stomach, and my "inner craftiness".

I am a farm girl! I have a farm girl heart and I am proud of that! I have a huge group of farm girl sisters who all care about each other. We may never meet each other face to face - but I still know in my heart that they are my "family". We feel sad when our sisters are sad, hurt when they hurt, and celebrate with them when they are happy! Isn't that what family does?

So, to my extended family I say thank you for being my sisters! I love and admire each of you for your hearts and for your talents!

You ever have one of those days?

You ever have one of those days where you miss your hubby, boyfriend, or even a loved one that you see everyday?? I really miss my hubby today...We two-way each other on the Nextel phone a few times a day and I even saw him at his work for a minute or two (dropped off some work gloves), but for some reason I still miss him alot. I guess it must be love...I know, awwwwww. I'll be glad when he gets home from work today - 2 1/2 more hours!

On a less mushy note..... The contest I'm having is really going well! The ladies at MJF are so creative in coming up with names for my new machine! I can't wait to find out who is going to be the winner on May 1st!

Oh, by the way - I got another great find coming my way this weekend!!!! I'm not going to say any more about it, but it's great! I will post pics as soon as I get home with it this weekend.

I have also had the best outpouring of comments to me about keeping my blog! Thank you to everyone who asked me to stay - I really appreciate all of the kind words! I'm gonna hang in there for awhile and see how it goes.

This week I've been busy with my crocheting - making things for a charity site I belong to for babies that are born and for those that God takes from us too soon. I enjoy making things for those precious babies even though I never get to see who gets my creations. That's o.k though. God knows who gets them, He knows that they come from my heart,and that is all that matters :)

Hey all! After reading the comments from some really great ladies, I decided to stay up for a little while longer and see what happens :) I really do love posting on here because it gives me a way to connect to others and also a way to sorta "let it out" if ya know what I mean ;)

So, let's see..... What have I been up to lately?? Well, I am almost done with my MJF sisterhood badge and will post pics when it's complete, Easter came and went - we even had a visit from the Easter Bunny! The kids had a blast! My hubby has had a leg infection so I have been doing pretty much everything around here for a few days but that ok because i know he would do the same for me.... I know, awwwwwww.

On April 12th the Crafty Bay Farmgirls are going to Ellicott City to do a little antiquing, eating, and gabbing! I really like having this chapter because it's so nice to hang out with the gals again! After 8 years of being a SAHM and really not connecting with any gals except for online, this is like a breath of fresh air!

Oh, and this weekend the family is going camping!!!! I'm so excited!!! Yeah, I know - you couldn't tell...lol We are heading to Woodbine, MD instead of Ocean City. Hubby wants to check out a place that we heard was nice for the kids. So, I'm game. This will be my first time in a pop up camper so we'll see how it goes and I'll be sure to take tons of pics!

Thinking of shutting it down... :(

I've been thinking of shutting down my blog :( I don't seem to get many, if any, people checking me out. I try to post my crafts and my views on my family and some of the crazy and fun things we do. Sometimes I think it's because I'm new to this, but I get disappointed sometimes when I check out my site and no one has been around.

So here I sit, having a pity party for myself.... Maybe I'll get over it and stay, but I am going to give shutting this down some serious thought. If anyone out there has any advice for me, I'd appreciate it.

I know, I know...wah, wah, wah....lol

On a lighter note...I did get that camper clean and ready for camping next weekend!!! YAY! I am sooo excited! I think it's Ocean City bound for us. If I decide to keep my blog, I will post on this later.

I am sooo glad it's Friday! It has been a long week with the daylight savings time ending and all. It's dark when I get up now so that throws me off..lol

I finally finished my first merit badge for the MJF sisterhood. It's a button badge for the Buttoned Up section. I like it, it turned out pretty good :)

I've been busy cleaning out a pop up camper that was given to us this week. I don't think the people who previously owned cleaned it that often...Is that mean to say?? I don't want to come off as mean, but that thing was really , really dirty! Oh, well, the price was right...FREE. I can't complain, it's just alot of work. I'll live...lol

On a lighter note, I'm looking forward to another Crafty Bay Chapter meeting next month!! I believe that we're going to check out some antique shops! I can't wait!! Antiquing, talking, eating...what could be better??

Well, I haven't posted in a few days, so I thought I'd catch up :) Nothing special going on here in the burbs - just doin the mommy thing and the wifey thing..lol I did take a few pics of an antique stor find that I'll put on here. Other than that, I've been staying in and organizing my craft room and the rest of the house. Man, this place is like trying to squeeze 20 pounds of stuff into a 5 pound bag! I have waaayyyy too much stuff. My problem is - I LOVE my stuff! Hmmm...maybe I could get rid of a couple family members.........just kidding - or was I?? LOL

So, this weekend is supposed to be another raining crappy one. Of course - I live in Maryland! We have really weird weather. There's an old saying around here though - If you don't like the weather in Maryland - wait ten minutes! That is so true. So now we have flood watches in effect already and 1 - 3 inches of rain coming. No outside work getting done around here! I guess my honey - do list will have to be all indoors related! LOL

Paid $5.00 for this! Good deal, I think....

First Chapter Meeting was Great!

Well, March 1st was the official start of the Crafty Bay Farmgirls! It was so much fun. We discussed our journal, talked, ate, and talked some more. It was great meeting everyone and sgaring stories about our lives. We also discussed what brought us to MJF in the first place. Shannan made us the most beautiful washclothes and we got to choose our colors. Mine matches my bathroom! Sherry was ill and couldn't make it, but she will be at the next meeting! Gail will have little lambs by next month so maybe we'll head up there to see those babies! My daughter took a pic of us before we said our goodbyes :(

I'm also gonna post our logo that I made up last night - so far all the ladies (except one I haven't heard from yet) approves. I think it fits us well. Let me know what you all think, ok??

I haven't been on in awhile, but I have been busy. Today I'm posting pics of my newest creations and some of my family. I also have a cool shot from after the rain storm the other day!

It's Official! We have a Chapter!

The Chapter is official. We are the Crafty Bay Farmgirls Chapter! I love the name and it suits each one of us. Our first meeting will be early March and hopefully we can brainstorm and get some ideas flying around! I have so many ideas in my head right now, but I always like hearing other peoples too. I look forward to meeting all the ladies in person. I already know one of them very well (she's my daughter! lol)
This weekend I worked one my craftroom and got organized. I never knew I had so much stuff! I had to bring in a big china cabinet that I had been saving in from the garage for more storage :)
I also finished a chemo cap for a farmgirl friend's daughter the other day. It is a beautiful shade of green and soooo soft! I hope she likes it.
Now I'm working on rolling some "plarn" so I can get to making something with it. Probably a tote bag or purse to start, then get a little more creative down the road. My husband thinks that it's the neatest thing he ever saw....he probably also thinks his wife is a little nuts too. lol
I have some pics to put on here, but I'll get to that later. I finished my other table with the beautiful paper from Lisa (tribalcime), and I've been thinking of making more totes... I have pleanty of denim and little extras, so probably will. I have projects to finish up first, though. Shouldn't take me long, so hopefully I'll have more totes in the works soon.
Anywho - I'm off to get my daughter some breakfast. she has to wait a little while before her tummy wakes up..lol It's also so cold here today - 19 degrees! Yikes! Probably stay inside and stay warm today. I hope everyone has a great Monday! Take care and Happy Crafting!

Gonna start an MJF Chapter. YAY!!!!!

Finally....I am going to start an MJF Chapter! I have gotten with a few other MD gals and we have decided to go for it! It is going to be a blast! Can you tell I'm excited about this?? LOL We haven't decided on a name yet, but hopefully we will in a day or two so I can sign us gals up and get the wheels spinning! I've been brainstorming some names and I have already talked to one of the gals who is going to be in the chapter with me. She is such a sweetheart! Nice, nice, nice!! I think we will have a good ole' time!! I will keep you all posted on my Chapter happenings.

Crocheting with "Plarn"??

Ok, this is very interesting to me. "Plarn", ya know, plastic bags that are turned into something beautiful by crocheting the strips. I have to try this. While I am, by no means, a recycle fanatic, I do my share. I reduse, reuse, and recycle whenever I can, but sometimes I slip up and throw things away that shouldn't be. ( I know, shame on me :( , I will try harder, promise).

Back to the plarn. I got this really cool book from the library called , "It's not your momma's crochet", and it has a cute purse in there made by using "plarn". I got really excited about that little purse! I have to make it now. Between that and making a HUGE tote for my MIL, I am going to be a little busy. She saw my smaller totes and wants a big one to take shopping . She is way into the "Go Green" scene herself and her bag is going to reflect that. It's cool, though. (sounded a little 60's there, lol) I enjoy making things.

Now, all I have to do is gather up them plastic grocery store bags and start cutting them into long continuous strips. Should be fairly simple. I need to go to the craft store for handles too. I always LOVE an excuse to get to A.C Moore, plus I received a gift card for my B-day to them! LOL.

If it turns out well, I will post it on here. Hopefully you will all get to see it! *crossing fingers*

I am still up in the air about an Etsy shop too. My family says I should, but is it worth it? Is it more stress than it's worth? Should I take my things to craft shows instead? Ughhh, I guess I will figure this out eventually. In the meantime, I will keep crafting and stashing my "stuff" until I decide what to do. I always appreciate suggestions about what sells or not too.

List of things to do before I leave this world....

Today's been one of those rainy, dreary days that gets ya thinking about crazy stuff! Since my house is all peaceful and it's just little old me here, I've been thinking of things that I want to do before I leave my place in this world. So, I have compiled a list of "MUST DO'S".

Here it is. lol

1. Travel abroad and visit as many castles as I can. I love anything and everything about castles and medieval times.

2. Drive one of those little European cars on the other side of the road!!

3. Buy a brand new Dodge Ram quad cab pick up truck with the BIG Hemi motor (diesel). GRRRR..lol

4. Get another tattoo...I have a wizard on my right shoulder and I would love a dragon on the left shoulder.

5. Renew my vows with my hubby. I know...awwwwwww

6. Get a house in the country - either a farm or a HUGE Victorian (it has to have a turret)

7. Travel the U.S and see something other than this darned Mid Atlantic area! lol

8. Learn how to do stained glass windows...ahhh how I love stained glass.

9. Take that honeymoon that my hubby and I didn't get 6 years ago - Hey , maybe that's where the castles could come in......hmmmmm

10. Fix up our old '60 New Yorker and show it off.

11. Drag race just once...or twice..lol

12. Get Lasix surgery on my eyes and a tummy tuck, butt tuck, chin tuck, and a boob lift ...oh, rambling again..sorry.lol

13. Go to Australia and have some shrimp on the barbie mate!

14. Visit Canada and do some sightseeing

15. And finally, for now, be here long enough for all of my kids to tell me "Thanks, Mom - I know now that everything you did was for us".

Now, I know my list may seem crazy, but I'm a little crazy anyway (in a good way, not clinically lol). Hopefully I got my friends on here thinking about what you all would like to do before you leave this world. I have already accomplished so much, but, there is always room for more!! I know my list will probably change over time due to circumstances in life. It's just fun to think about everything there is to do in this world and what you'd like to do in it!!

Here it is 11pm and I am hungry. I know, I know - this is THE worst time to eat anything. Hmmm, I could really go for a big bowl of ice cream...but I won't. So I decided to write in my blog instead. Hubby is on the couch watching WWE Wrestling. We know that stuff is so phoney, but sometimes I gotta laugh at all those crazy guys on there. I did get another table top finished tonight. It turned out really good too. I'll post pics after i get the top attached to the base.

As promised - here are more pics of my tote bags and a pic of a wonderful gift I received from Lisa (tribalcime) the other day. I wish I lived near her - we would have a blast!! Maybe I'll get to go to Kentucky one day and meet her in person. I think I've only seen her hands in her posts....lol (hint hint Lisa) lol

This is one of Lisa's creations! I have no clue how she knew that I love black and red, but this bracelet is so beautiful. I wore it to my daughter's house and she loved it too! It looks great on and the beads are beautiful! Thank you so much Lisa! I love, love, love it!

I finally had time to take some pics of my "stuff"..lol I have a few thrift store finds and my tote bags. I guess I need to start on something else while I wait for some snow! Everyone else is getting snow and I'm so jealous! I just want one good snow storm, that's all! lol. I need a good snowball fight and snowman building adventure with the kids right now!

Hubby found this at the thrift store and bought it for me. It's a picture frame. He's so sweet!

This is my silver platter - another thrift store find! $5.00!! How great is that?? I polished it up and she's so beautiful!

These are my tote bags. The bottom one is mine and the top one is an extra. I really like how they turned out. I lined them with the same fabric as the handles. I also embellished them with fabric cut outs, buttons, lace, and other trims. I like that they're not perfect - would seem to generic to me that way. Not bad for a few hours of work (and a few needle pricks in the fingers! lol)

No snow....I'm sad :(

Well, no snow yesterday. I'm so sad and disappointed! Today is already bright and sunny, which is wonderful - I just wish we had some snow on the ground. I love taking the kids outside to play and have snowball fights! Oh well, maybe next time around.

I finished my second tote bag last night and I'll post pics on here later. I think they both turned out great! I want to start an etsy shop, but I'm not sure what to sell. I crochet, sew, and do my paper arts.

Could anyone give me some tips on what really sells? I have seen so much stuff on there, but what do people really like? I make headbands, tote bags, pot holders, covered boxes, afghans, and I love making Christmas ornaments! Any input would be appreciated!!

Anywho, not much going on here this morning - All is quiet... that will change when the little one gets up and the other kids get home from school! lol So I am off to enjoy a cup of coffee and try to crochet myself something! Take Care and Happy Crafting!!!!

Waiting for the snow/rain to come

Well, I'm sitting here with my youngest child (she's 5), and waiting for the snow/rain mix to come. We're hoping for just snow, but in MD. you usually get a mix of stuff that is, well, a pain in the butt to deal with! The other kids have a half day of school today, so after 12:45pm, I'll have a full house. I'm going to try to get something done around here today, but I have two speeds going right now...slow and stop! lol

Hmmmm. maybe if I concentrate long and hard enough - the rain will stay away and it will just snow, snow, snow! I need to live in the upper Midwest or Northeast! I love snow. There is something about watching it fall that is so peaceful.

Anywho - I have been making tote bags out of some leftover jean tops. I saw Lisa's (tribalcime on MJF) purses and they are beautiful. While I don't need any more purses, I decided to take the leftover jean tops and use them for totes. This way I can go to the library with the kids and carry the books home in them.

The leftover jean tops came about from cutting denim squares for Alee on MJF. A fellow farmgirl and her family are going through a very difficult time right now and Alee has been kind enough to make our fellow farmgirl and her daughter quilts from denim squares. Alot of us on the MJF boards are donating denim squares. I know the quilt will be beautiful when done! I have been lighting a small candle everyday and saying prayers for our farmgirl friend and her family.

It snowed yesterday!!!

Yesterday we got about 2 inches of snow. It was so beautiful, but then it started to sleet and ruined it. :( Anywho, we enjoyed it while it was falling and from what the weathermen say (you know they are wrong most of the time so we'll see), we are supposed to get a "major winter event" tomorrow afternoon into sunday! Go figure since tomorrow is my anniversary! It will be 6 years of wedded bliss to my best friend Charlie! LOL We have been together for 8 years, though. I love that guy! we are supposed to go to a Japanese Steakhouse called Sakura, but if it snows like they are calling for, I'll have to postpone it until next weekend. :( It's ok though because the day we got married was the only day in 2002 that it snowed here! We'll just get out the photo albums and look at how much we aged in the last 6 years! lol More gray hair and a little more weight!

Making Spring Plans

Ok, so hubby and I were sitting around a fire the other night in the back yard ....... we do that sometimes after the little ones go to bed. I love campfires - they are so relaxing! We started talking about Spring and all of the things we want to do this year. So I compiled a list :

1) Build a bigger fire pit in the backyard

2) Turn the corner of the backyard into a screened in area to sit after we go swimming or to just relax under the tree

3) Build a brick patio to put the pool on so it will be level. (last year one side seemed to sink a little after a bad rain storm.

4) "Try" to grow another veggie garden this year

5) Get rid of all the old toys in the yard ( I'm sure there will be more to replace them! lol)

6) Finally - get some camping time in with the kids. We finally have a pop-up now! I am so excited!

I'm hoping my backyard will take on a new look and be more fun to hang out in.

I still have projects to finish up before Spring, though. My quilt, doing another table top to go on the other side of the couch, and trying my hand at ceramics. I have two kilns , slip, and molds so I am excited about that. Hubby needs to finish the bathroom downstairs too.
Whew, I sure do need more hours in a day! So much to do and so little time! lol.
Anywho, I am off to work on filling up the farm girl fun box that I received Saturday! So much beautiful stuff in there! I am throwing in some more goodies and passing it along to the next farm girl.

I'm back....again. I have been really busy in the 'burbs lately. I just had surgery on the 7th of January and now I am feeling better. I had a procedure called Novasure done. It is when the lining of the uterus gets burned to reduce the heavy bleeding associated with Auntie Flo! I felt crappy for a day or two, but now I'm better with the exception of a sore throat from the tube being in there when I was knocked out!
Anywho - I've been working on a few projects. One is the quilt blocks from the MJF winter quilt block swap! These ladies are so talented. My block paled in comparison, but I had fun doing them. I know the quilt will be great when it gets done! I've also made a table top from some of the gorgeous papers given to me by Lisa on MJF (tribalcime). She is such a sweetheart fro sending them to me. They are pics of Victorian women, children, and objects as well as country pics and a few other types. I took pics of the table with the new "top' on it and I will post them on here shortly. I just wanted to let everyone know that I was still kickin'! LOL

It's Been Awhile

It's been awhile since I posted last. I have been so busy getting ready for Christmas, not to mention that everyone here at my house has been ill. Yuck.. :( I have been making scarves, gloves, decoupage boxes, ornaments, and going to my children's school for all of their parties.
My youngest turned 5 on the 12th and we had a little family party for her here. She had such a great time! My house is all decorated for the holidays in my "everything that is Christmas goes out" style. I have no theme. Never did. I love all of the handmade things from my 5 kids. I have stuff on my tree that is almost 20 years old from my oldest! My husband has did another over the top job on the front lawn...lol I'll try to post pics soon. My electric company is going to love us this season. LOL
The weather here is one word COLD!!! The wind is terrible and a hairdo does not have a chance! I'm staying warm inside today because the thought of waiting for my van to warm up is really unappealing..lol.
I should really be finishing up my Christmas shopping....last minute much?? I think I will do that tomorrow and Wednesday.
